We build power.

Rising Organizers trains everday people in community organizing skills—for free.

By teaching these new and emerging leaders how to organize, we’re teaching them how to ensure that the people impacted by policies have a say in how they are crafted and what they are. This puts power back into the hands of those who need it most, and ensures we can build a participatory, equitable democracy that works for all of us.

Our work

We train people who are new to organizing work and social change to harness their power, story, and community to create impact.

We believe that focusing on this underserved community expands the power and potential of movements for social justice and builds a more robust, participatory democracy. We know people power is the greatest tool there is—and that the best way of winning is bringing more and more people into social justice movements. We also know that new leaders require deeper relationship building, coaching, and community than established organizers, and have developed all of our programs with this specific audience in mind.

Rising Organizers makes community organizing accessible and strategic. Through our programs, we grow communities' abilities to impact change, invest in key tools for healthy democratic participation, and fight for a future where our leaders are accountable to the people.

“When you’re on the ground organizing or even just in a tough and maybe emotional conversation, that’s when your mind turns to scrambled eggs and you panic. That’s when it’s really helpful to fall back on [this skill] and know I have this very basic formula that gives me some structure.”

— Leena, Answering Difficult Questions Training Attendee

“Everyone in my fellowship class had a different focus, and I learned so much from my fellow participants. It was so powerful to come from such different places, such different interests and skills, but all be working toward a just world.”

“Rising Organizers took the time to really learn the issue and consider the positionality of those most impacted by the issue, those in the room, and the trainers, demonstrating an intentionality that is valuable and necessary for engaging in this work.”

— Leah Muskin-Pierret, Collective Action for Safe Spaces

“The fellowship from Rising Organizers has been a very meaningful experience.

Before joining, I never knew how to start getting deeper into organizing and how to make a more intentional effort to make the world a better place. Through Rising Organizers, they highlighted the importance of developing a strategy and to focus on how it will impact the structural issues. I really enjoyed my time here and look forward to using these lessons learned!”

- Azure, Spring 2020 Fellow
